Stella Steps Up Week 6: Working out to stay positive

BILLINGS, Mont. -

Staying dedicated to your fitness routine has its ups and its downs.

One KULR-8 employee isn't allowing the more challenging days to keep him away from the gym.

"So what's my favorite workout song? You know honestly, I really like SNL so I always do, I'm on a boat, I'm on a boat. I don't know. I like that one," said Mikel Wolf, a production employee at KULR-8.

He loves his workouts at the gym, but exercise means even more to him.

"I work at the news station, but I also work with people with mental health issues and it really dawned on me, with a lot of things going on in the news, I really should focus on my mental health," said Wolf.

Since sharpening focus on fitness and nutrition, Wolf says he has a much better attitude and more energy.

However, that's not the way things used to be.

Slowly and steadily, things are changing.

"Excuses would kind of creep in, then I'd come work out, then I'd find some other reason. I kind of just fell back on knowing how good I feel by being here and just staying active and eating right."

Wolf, for the most part, is back on track.

"I've always been able to lose weight, gain weight, lose weight, but to maintain it being off, I think that's the biggest thing, to take the things that I've learned and keep it as a consistent lifestyle and not let those little things slip and get me back into bad habits.

Becca VonLangen, an instructor at Granite Health & Fitness said, "Anybody can achieve whatever they want if they set their mind to it. But I think with Mikel, he obviously knows how he feels when he works out. He said that he feels better. He enjoys the atmosphere. It's one of the most positive places. I love to be here."

Wolf definitely loves his exercise and he's not stopping any time soon.

"I think it's just starting. It's getting out the door and making that first attempt, getting on a tread mill, listening to a trainer. Don't be ashamed. you should be proud the second you walk in here because you are doing something with your life and some people aren't so that should be motivation in itself," said Wolf.

"He's got it. he understands it so he'll keep coming back," said VonLangen.

Trainers at Granite say one of their goals is to get people to have fun while they are exercising.

During his exercise sessions, Wolf says it doesn't take long for the endorphins to kick in and make him happy he decided to make the trip to the gym.

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
