Stella Steps Up Week 5: Fitness and the family

Getting back in shape doesn't have to be a lonely experience. Including the entire family makes it even more rewarding.

"You know when I first heard we were doing a challenge, it was so exciting because I've been making so many excuses of why not to get off of the couch," said longtime KULR-8 employee, Cheryl Temple, who is undergoing a huge fitness transformation.

The corporate fitness challenge, which teams up KULR-8 and Granite Fitness, jump-started her journey. Since then, her daughters, Madisynn and Makinnzy, are seeing great things happen.

"Before, she never really worked out, and she was always saying, oh, I don't look good and all that stuff so I'm really proud of her for doing this and she's doing a really good job so far," said Madisynn Temple.

Cheryl is finding more and more motivation as each day passes.

"I'm excited not only for myself, but my kids see it. My husband sees it. I'm excited to say, gosh, I just walked five miles."

She says she's looking forward to making good health more of a habit than a chore.

"She's always happy all the time and feeling better about herself, which I really like," said Madisynn Temple.

The girls are working out too.

Madisynn and Makinnzy excitedly said, "Yes. because we've been doing classes ourselves as well so it's really good for her to get exercise and us to get exercises as well."

"It's very important as a family. It's important for parents to be role models for their kids and show them it's not a chore to be healthy," said Cambria Duda, one of Cheryl's Granite Fitness instructors.

What might have started reluctantly, now is a push to go the extra mile and achieve some fitness and nutrition goals as an entire family.

"I'm going to keep going. I'm going to make this such a habit. people think of habits that are bad. this is going to be good," said Cheryl.

"Yeah! rock and roll. rock and roll," said Madisynn and Makinnzy.

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
