Stella Steps Up Week 4: Making a healthier routine a habit

BILLINGS, Mont. -

KULR-8 Executive Producer Emily Nantz is taking a comical, yet positive approach to getting healthier, but that doesn't mean it's easy. It takes hard work and commitment.

"That's where my biggest challenge is, saying I'm going to do something and then not following through. I'm hoping through this process it will also teach me to follow through on things I've said I'm going to do," Emily said.

"Everybody kind of reaches that phase," said Granite Health & Fitness Certified Trainer Kari Bogner. "Results don't happen as fast anymore or you just kind of are, is it worth it, I'm tired, this is a lot more work to eat healthy and go to the gym."

Fitness trainers say when you get serious about exercise and better nutrition, the excitement seems never-ending, but then reality sets in.

"Definitely one of the hardest things for me is making sure I eat right, especially in the newsroom," KULR-8 reporter Leah Jordan said. "It's so easy for things to get crazy and there's not enough time to go out and get something healthy so you find yourself going out to get fast food and it's a vicious cycle."

But just like her co-worker, Emily, Leah is putting forth her best efforts by going to the gym and taking small steps to better nutrition.

"Just pack a healthy sandwich, some healthy snacks, some fruit, vegetables, power bars, that type of thing, just so you have them and don't get in a pinch where you're so hungry you do end up having to go get fast food," Kari said.

And remember, it's about small adjustments that lead to big change in the end.

"I mean if you get a car with a flat tire, you don't just throw the car away so it's definitely taught me to keep going, even though there are those setbacks," Leah said.

"It doesn't matter what we did in the first part of the competition," Emily said. "We've got to look at where we are right now and continue strongly to the end."

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
