The first Sunday of every month is Food Bank Sunday. According to Billings Food Bank CEO Sheryle Shandy, 120 churches throughout Billings will have 55 gallon barrels to collect donations.
She said some of the most needed items this January include Similac with iron, larger-sized diapers, individually packaged items for sack lunches, and shelf stable milk.
"We also request the number 10 cans, the larger, institutional-sized cans of fruits and vegetables. They're much easier. As an example, we do 400-some meals a day for Boys and Girls Club. If we have number 10s you open up maybe six cans. If you don't have number 10s, you open up 105 cans...so it makes a big difference," Shandy said.
Throughout the year, the contributions made to Food Bank Sundays make up between 20 and 25 percent of their total donations, according to Shandy.
