MSUB's Hedge Heading to NCAA Golf Regional

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS – Earning an at-large berth into the NCAA West Regional Men's Golf Championships, Montana State University Billings senior Jake Hedge will represent the Yellowjackets from May 4-6 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif., announced the NCAA on Friday.

“I am very excited for Jake and our golf program to receive an invitation to the NCAA Regional Championships,” commented MSUB head coach Shawn O'Brien. “Jake has worked extremely hard to get to the level he is playing at. It will be fun to watch him go play in California next week, and if he plays well he will truly showcase himself.”

Hedge finished the regular season with an even 73.00 average round according to Golf Stat, which is the lowest season average in MSUB history. The senior recently finished tied for fifth place at the GNAC Championships, and finished in the top-10 in four of the eight events that he participated in for MSUB.

Hedge, a Billings, Mont., native, fired a low round of 68 on the season and made par in more than half of his 22 total rounds.

The senior finished as the runner-up in both of MSUB's invitational tournaments, and his two-round total of 139 in the spring tournament was the second-best score in program history.

Also a standout scholar athlete, Hedge was inducted to the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society at MSUB last week for carrying a 3.71 grade point average while majoring in finance.

Hedge is one of eight individuals selected to participate in the combined South Central/West Regional Championships, along with 20 teams which will compete in the event. Overall, 80 teams and 32 individual student-athletes were selected to participate in the Division II Golf Championships, which will be held at four regional sites.

The top three teams and top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled for May 18-22 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, North Carolina.

Hedge will compete against three other student-athletes from the West and four more from the South Central for one of the two individual berths into the NCAA Championships.

The combined South Central and West regional will be hosted by Cal State University East Bay, and will be a 54-hole, three-round format.
