Unique To Helena "The Hathworn" Opens With A Little Help From Its Friends
“I wanted to come back to my roots, in Helena.” That's what Co-Owner of The HawthornBottle Shop & Tasting Room, Jill Roberts said as we talked about the new addition to the downtown walking mall.
Jill has worked in New York City for the last sixteen years as a Sommelier and Beverage Director in multiple prestigious restaurants including the Top Chef Harold Dieterle's West Village restaurant The Marrow. He aunt, Colleen Casey, joined Roberts efforts to make her dream come true. Now, The Hawthorn is open and it has become a unique place, designed unlike any other in the Helena area.
The efforts to successfully bring the bottle shop were communal. The owners opened up an Indiegogo website to raise funds to make the place especially unique. Talented friends joined the efforts, as a talented woodworker Scott Walker, made all their furniture, including the cutting boards that hang behind the bar in the tasting room. The main table, a 12-foot long solid piece of wood, makes for the main piece of decor. It also adds to the coziness of the shop, as you have no choice but to sit near strangers, who may end up turning into friends by the end of the night.
Walk in, and feel as though you've left Helena. The Hawthorn is classy, polished, and the staff is knowledgeable about their wine.
