Two Children Die, One Hospitalized After Playing on Pond and Falling Through Ice
GREAT FALLS, Mont. -
Three children are reported to have fallen through the ice on a sewage holding pond by the Pleasant Valley Colony in Belt.At approximately 3:45 p.m., emergency personnel were called to respond to reports of children who had fallen into a pond off McCoy Road. Initial reports say that at least one of the children who was pulled out of the water was deemed to be unresponsive. Scanner traffic suggests that CPR was performed on two children, ages five and seven. Mercy Flight was called but did not land. Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards says that three children were taken to hospital, one by private vehicle and two by ambulance. Stay with us online and on air for more information as it develops.
Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards confirmed to KFBB that two boys, ages 4 and 5, have died. A third child is currently in intensive care at Benefis Hospital.
Sheriff Edwards says the children were playing on the frozen pond and fell in when the ice broke. Other children witnessed the event and went to get help from adults. The adults were able to pull the three kids out of the water. Sheriff Edwards says the two boys who eventually lost their lives received advanced life support.
