Noxious Weeds

Posted: Updated:
BUTTE -

Noxious weeds are a growing problem in Butte-Silver Bow and the Weed Control Department is asking folks to get rid of the weeds within ten days before they go to seed.

Some may look like flowers but they're actually noxious weeds. Specific weeds of concern are Kochia, Baby's Breath and Spotted Knapweed. The city-county is sending out extra crews to promptly address weeds on public property.

Here is guide to know what to look for on your property.

Kochia is a dark green color when young but turns red as it matures. Baby's Breath which is commonly used in floral arrangements is bushy with tiny white flowers. Knapweed is easily identified by its' small pink or purple flowers with black tips directly under the flower head.

The Weed Control Department says if Knapweed is spotted it should be mowed immediately. See here for more information about weed control.
