Relay For Life: Brandi's Story

Posted: Updated:

Relay For Life is emotional for everyone, especially for those participating after battling and surviving cancer.

Brandi Stone has participated in the event for the past eight years. She says this year’s Relay is special to her.

Stone started getting involved with Relay For Life as the team captain of the Walmart team. This is her first year participating as a cancer survivor. She says it was a tough journey, especially because she didn't have family support.

"Really the only family support I had was my grandma and I lost her during this and then just my friends,” Brandi says. “And if it hadn't been for my friends Gretchen and her husband I don't know what I would've done. They were just, they were my family. They were my support. They just encouraged me that I could get through it and that I would survive."

Brandi hopes to inspire others with cancer. "For me it just felt like everything was domino-ing down but I survived through it. And you can survive if you have a good support system through friends and family, you can survive through anything."

This weekend, Brandi is celebrating her birthday and for Brandi, there is no other way she wants to celebrate than to be at Relay. "This is my birthday.”
