Mustangs Pitcher Reads to Kids

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - A Billings Mustangs pitcher was a little out of his element, sitting in a lawn chair at Central Park, and he enjoyed every minute of it.

Brennan Bernardino read to kids on Thursday afternoon at Central Park as part of the "Reading Rocks" program. The program, in association with School District Two's free lunch program, features a guest storyteller from around the community at every session. Children then read with volunteers, and take a book home for free.

"When I was meeting the little kids, when I was out there, I was nervous," Bernardino said with a smile. "I came out here with butterflies to read to them. I enjoyed it just as much as they did. It's just a blessing."

"Opening their mind to these books, and everything they're reading -- that's great," he added. "And it's good to be around supervision. I know if I was a kid I'd be out here to read and do free lunch."

Check out Reading Rocks from June 23rd - July 31st this summer.
