Suspect in Absarokee Homicide Pleads Not Guilty

Posted: Updated:
ABSAROKEE - The suspect in the 2013 Absarokee homicide pleads not guilty in Stillwater County District Court.

Michael Holtz, 21, is charged with felony counts of negligent homicide and tampering with or fabricating evidence as a suspect in the murder of 27-year-old Forest Dana near his parents' home in Absarokee.

An autopsy revealed Dana died of blunt force trauma. The coroner in the case says Dana died from a car being driven over his head. Charging documents indicate Holtz is also charged with tampering with or fabricating evidence for crashing his car into a tree to slow the investigation. Officers arrested Holtz based off of DNA found on the vehicle.

According to investigators, Holtz denied driving his car the night of the incident, saying he hit a deer three weeks before Dana's death.
