Heat Sparks Fire Concerns

Posted: Updated:

Billings Fire Department Battalion Chief Ed Thompson said hot temperatures create an environment where the smallest spark could set an entire field ablaze.

Thompson said people can avoid fires and be prepared for fires by doing a few things:

First, follow the law.  Within the city limits of Billings, no fireworks are to be shot off.

Secondly, if you live in a rural area, be sure to some source of water or fire extinguisher within reach because within minutes, your house property could be destroyed and the fire crew is still miles.

And finally, Thompson said educate your children about the fire and how it is a tool and not a toy.
