Man Sentenced for Strangling Wife Files Appeal

Posted: Updated:

A former Billings man who was sentenced for strangling his ex-wife and then dumping her in a river files an appeal.

In 2013, a judge sent Walter “Marty” Larson to prison for 100 years for killing his ex-wife, Susan Casey, in Glendive. Her body was found in the Yellowstone River in 2008.

Attorneys for Larson filed an appeal with the Montana Supreme Court for a new trial, asking the court to withhold information from a 2012 interrogation. In court documents, they say the information was unlawfully obtained as police violated Larson’s right to counsel and right to remain silent.

His attorneys also insist Larson had ineffective counsel because they failed to present video recording of Larson’s interrogation. According to Larson’s attorneys, the transcript of the interrogation was incorrect, which they say the video recording shows.
