Truckers Raising Awareness About Human Trafficking

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

The Montana Attorney General stopped by the Montana truck driving championships as a part of the Department of Justice's human trafficking awareness campaign.

The Montana Motor Carriers Association partnered with Attorney General Tim Fox's department to put 200 of the awareness posters on trucks. Fox says the partnership is important because traffickers stop by rest stops often and truck drivers can help stop trafficking. He says the $32 billion industry is growing, and second to the drug trade.

"Also seeing young girls, Montana girls in particular, people who could be your neighbors, who've been trafficked out of Montana to other states for sex trafficking so we're not immune to it here in Montana,” Fox said. “We need to be aware of it."

Fox says some signs of human trafficking include seeing girls between the ages of 12 and 14 and older men speaking on behalf of them. For more information, click on Connections.
