Cancer Survivor BBQ

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - Billings Clinic hosted its annual cancer survivor barbeque on Thursday night, and had a record turnout.

The event celebrates people in the community who are fighting cancer, and those who have beat cancer. It's the free barbeque's seventh year, but the first time ever on the clinic's campus.

Billings Clinic Cancer Center Counselor Amber Ussin-Davey said the event provides a great opportunity for former and current patients to interact with each other -- and their doctors.

"We get that (cancer) impacts every area of their lives," Ussin-Davey said. "We want to inject some fun and some opportunities for them to meet at a real human level too, and not just talk about specifics of medical stuff, but have an opportunity to let our guards down, relax, and just share a meal. That's been a time long tradition -- a way to get to really know each other."

The clinic was expecting about 150 people, but more than 300 attended.

Much of northwest Wyoming is a high desert, but most people don’t use rain barrels to conserve water. Cody’s Nature Conservancy wants to change that, with a rain barrel auction at its second annual Wild West Riverfest in Cody.

Can you imagine building a hotel by stacking one floor on top of another? That’s what’s happening in Yellowstone. The Park’s lodging concessionaire, Xanterra, tore out hundreds of old cabins in Canyon Village, and started construction this summer on five new lodges to replace them. The new lodges are actually modular jigsaw puzzles.
