Fly Fishing Camp

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - A group of Billings kids are learning the basics of fly fishing -- free of charge.

Magic City Fly Fishers are paying tuition for 14 of the 24 students at the week-long camp, which runs this week at Rocky Mountain College. The group of experts show kids ages 10-13 how to tie fly knots and how to cast. The Montana Wildlife, Fish & Parks Dept. is also teaching entomology of a trout's diet in a session.

"It's basically an all inclusive fly fishing camp," Instructor Kevin Davis said. "They aren't only learning how to cast, they're continuing to tie flies -- they learn a lot about the sport."

Davis says the camp started in the late 1990's, and he's helped the past five summers.

"It's rewarding to be out there with all of these youngsters, and see them learn what I've enjoyed over the years growing up here in Montana," Davis added.

The camp is six hours a day this week, and ends with a fishing trip to a lake outside of Red Lodge on Friday.

Susanne Rodell faced a difficult situation. Hail storm damage to her roof led to an insurance claim being filed. Rodell picked a local contractor to fix her roof, but mother nature did not cooperate. While the roofing company was in the middle of fixing her roof, a weekend of rain caused water damage to dry wall and ceilings within the house.
