YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK -

A visitor is killed after getting hit by a falling tree at Yellowstone National Park.

According to a press release, a 36-year-old man from Taiwan was hiking the Fairy Falls trail, north of Old Faithful. His identity is not being released, pending notification of the family.

Officials say the man left the trail in an apparent attempt get a better view of the Grand Prismatic Spring and climbed a tree-covered slope when a lodgepole pine tree fell on his head.

Park rangers who responded say the conditions were windy at the time and the tree that fell was a dead lodgepole pine from the park's 1988 fires. The incident remains under investigation by the National Park Service.
