Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Infant Death Charges

BILLINGS -

The woman accused of the 2012 death of her three-month-old daughter pleads not guilty in court Tuesday.

Amanda Steffen, 23, is charged with aggravated assault, criminal endangerment, negligent homicide, and two counts of assault on a minor. In April, Steffen walked into the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department, admitting she began abusing her daughter at two weeks old.

According to court documents, she told detectives she believed she fractured her daughter's skull by punching her and suffocated her child on multiple occasions. No charges were filed at the time because police had insufficient evidence and the autopsy was inconclusive.

Steffen’s bond is set at 250-thousand dollars.
