Local Ham Radio Operators Participate in International Event

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - Ham radio operators from all over the world -- including Billings -- have participated in the international Museum Ships Radio Weekend.

The goal was to contact over 100 naval ship museums around the globe, and stations that contact at least 15 ships will receive a certificate. The two-day event continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Naval Reserve Center on Gabel Road.

Organizer Ron Glass said the event is a great way for people to learn about the history of ham radios.

"It's a great history lesson to be able to learn the history of the different ships, the different engagements that they were in, the different combat, the battles, the different history and maybe famous people that were on those greatest ships," Glass said. "It's a good way to learn history without sitting down and reading a book."

Organizers said if you'd like to see the operators in action, you can stop by the reserve center on Gabel Road.
