Tips to Keep Your Family Safe this Summer

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - May is National Trauma Awareness Month.

Dr. Barry McKenzie, Trauma Director at St. Vincent's Healthcare, says parents can keep their kids safe by doing a few things. Make sure your kids are secured safely in the car when you take road trips. When your kids are on the water, make sure they are wearing life vests and are properly supervised. Finally, if your child is riding anything with a wheel, make sure they have a helmet.

Dr. Arturo Echeverri, neurologist at St. Vincent Healthcare, says helmets save lives and protect what he believes is the most important organ in the body: the brain.

Dr. Echeverri also says the community should step up and make sure all kids have helmets, especially at the skate park. Echeverri believes helmet use should be mandated, not optional, at the Billings Skate Park.
