US House Candidate Visits Lockwood Fire

Posted: Updated:
LOCKWOOD -

Lockwood firefighters say they believe it's going to be a mild fire season based on current conditions.

US House candidate John Lewis visited the Lockwood fire station to discuss rural fire prevention and the fire season outlook. Firefighters say the moisture right now is above average. But they've been removing fire fuels around homes in Emerald Hills.

"It not only protects the homeowner and their home but it also protects the firefighters,” said Captain Robert Guenther with Lockwood Fire. “Firefighters look for houses that we can fall back to if the fire gets extreme and it'll save our lives as well as theirs.”

Lewis has been touring the state recognizing first responders.

"A lot of firefighting costs are on the back end especially with wildfires and I’m trying to highlight that a lot of prevention work on the front end can reduce cuts on the back end,” Lewis said.

Lewis toured Emerald Hills to see the areas that were burned two years ago.
