40 Years of WIC

BILLINGS -

2014 marks the 40th year for the WIC program. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infant, and Children's mission is to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.

Gayle Espeseth, WIC Coordinator for Riverstone Health, says her office serves about 2800 clients in Yellowstone County.

They are continuing the mission of WIC by having programs like Taste the Rainbow. Taste the Rainbow gives parents the chance to introduce kids to a variety of food in the all the food groups.

Espeseth says lots of color, means lot of variety, and lots of nutrition.

Most stores will have food labeled that's WIC eligible.
