BSHF Veterans Receive Roaring Homecoming

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - Flags all around, multiple signs, and a roaring crowd welcomed back our veterans. Monday night's return produced what many people are saying was the biggest crowd they have had yet.

Many people came to welcome back their grandfathers, fathers, a grandmother, and dear friends. But for some, it was to honor their World War Two grandfathers who have passed away.

Bryan Reilly says he wasn't able to get to know his grandfather, who fought in World War Two.

Reilly says he and his family wanted to go Monday to honor the veterans who fought so hard for this country and the world.

"I had a grandfather who was in World War Two. Did not know him, he died when I was young, but for the men and women who are still alive, it's a privilege to be out here honoring them, and I'm doing it in the honor of my grandfather," says Reilly.

While this was the last Big Sky Honor Flight for World War Two veterans, there are plans to begin similar flights for Korean and Vietnam War veterans. However, those flights will not originate out of Billings.

To all the World War Two veterans and their families, a heartfelt thank you.
