Drones Buzzing at Rocky Mountain College

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - Scott Wilson, Professor of Aviation at Rocky Mountain College, says the usage of unmanned aerial systems will increase in the coming years, whether Americans like it or not.

He says the concerns Americans have come from a place of misinformation or lack of information and the good they can do, outweighs the bad. From crop dusting to search and rescuing, Wilson says having a drone perspective could help in a lot of scenarios.

Ryan Rojeski is a graduate of the aeronautical science program at RMC. He says calling unmanned aerial systems drones isn't completely accurate because drones are fully autonomous, meaning completely unmanned; with unmanned aerial systems, there are different levels of autonomy.

The FAA is having a hard time regulating unmanned aerial systems because the technology is advancing exponentially and the FAA is a part of a political climate that still isn't keen on the idea of unmanned aerial systems.
