Daines Discusses Energy Industry

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - Montana Representative Steve Daines is traveling through eastern Montana this week to highlight the growing energy industry.

Representative Daines said he's worried the proposal by Washington state's governor to stop buying coal-generated electricity from Montana. Daines said it would directly impact the Colstrip power plant and Montana's overall economy."It's very troubling, and I'm concerned. Coal in Montana equals good-paying jobs. We are going to be hearing from union members, tribal members, and business community to hear how important it is, and how coal plays out in our economic future here in Montana," Daines said.

If Washington Governor Jay Inslee's proposal moves forward, Daines believes Montana's jobs, schools and taxes would be directly impacted. Daines started his trip in Billings Monday, and his next stop will be in Forsyth on Tuesday.
