Montana Halts Executions

BILLINGS -

Montana has put a hold on all executions.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union, a judge ruled on Thursday that a trial court must decide if the drug used for executions follows the statute.

Montana uses sodium pentothal in executions.

The law specifies it must be an "ultra fast acting barbiturate."

The ACLU argued that drug is not ultra fast acting.

In addition, sodium pentothal is no longer made in the US, and it's not available for purchase and illegal to import.

Last month, Oklahoma had a problem with an execution after using an untested protocol.

Currently, Montana has two inmates on death row.
