Women's Prison Recognizes Correctional Employees

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

The Montana Women's Prison held a barbeque Thursday to celebrate National Correctional Employees week.

the week was originally created by then-president Ronald Reagan to acknowledge the hard work these correctional officers do behind the locked doors of a prison.

Montana Women's Prison Warden, Joan Daly, says she is glad to celebrate what her correctional workers do because they don't always get the recognition she feels they deserve.

"I think correctional professionals are often unnoticed and unrecognized because we work in a locked facility and nobody sees all the good work that they do all year round to keep people safe and the community safe and the inmates safe," says Joan Daly.

Daly says the job of correctional professionals involves many different aspects, including complex interventions, empowering women to make lifestyle changes through education, role modeling and encouraging healthy relationships.
