Cabela's Hosts Family Outdoor Adventure Day

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - Hundreds of children braved the chilly weather to participate in the third annual Outdoor Adventure Day hosted by Cabela's.

The event started at 10 a.m., and the first 100 kids through the door received a free fishing pole. Activities included cooking with Dutch ovens, archery, shooting with BB guns, and hands-on fly tying. Cabela's marketing manager Cody Cass said the event was an opportunity for most kids to try an activity for the first time.

"If we can encourage them with an activity here at the store, encourage them to learn a new activity, then that encourages them to go out and spend time in the outdoors with the family," Cass said.

Activities wrapped up around 2 p.m.

Streets that run for several blocks, without a single street light. It is a dark reality many residents throughout the Magic City face when the sun goes down. Leo Robinson lives on Monad Rd., east of 24th Street. He said if street lights were placed on Monad, safety for everyone would improve. Terry Smith, City Traffic Engineer, said the city is more than willing to work with anyone, on any street, which lacks street lights.

Hundreds of Hells Angels are coming to Cody for a national meeting this week. The motorcycle club apparently likes the northwest Wyoming town. They held their world run there in 2006. Police presence is heavy in Cody now.
