SD2 Starting Redistricting Process, Committee

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS - School District Two has not been fully redistricted in 30 years, according to SD2's superintendent.

With two new middle schools and what the superintendent says might be the largest incoming kindergarten class based on projections, SD2's board is starting the redistricting process for elementary and middle schools Monday with a discussion of what criteria should be for the redistricting committee membership. The committee will be made up of 20 to 25 people.

"We need to have our kids go to the schools by and large that are closest to their neighborhoods and we're going to try to do that to the best of our ability," said Superintendent Terry Bouck.

Bouck says there are 36 to 37 bus routes taking students all over the district because of lack of space. Some parents, like Melissa Soucy, moved to a neighborhood so her children could go to good schools.
