KENNEWICK, WA - Oregon Senator Ron Wyden called on the Department of Energy to outline a plan for action at the Hanford tank farms and gave them 45 days to respond. Those 45 days have now passed.

NBC Right Now checked in with Senator Wyden's office and it turns out absolutely nothing happened. DOE never gave a response to his request.

Wyden asked specifically for a plan to address reported construction flaws in six double shell tanks like the double shell tank revealed to be leaking waste in 2012.

Wyden said in a statement, addressing DOE's failure to respond to his request, that DOE doesn't recognize that the double shell tanks might not be enough to handle waste from single shell tanks.

Wyden went on to say, "This is another case of DOE seeming to stick its head in the radioactive sand."

Wyden says he wants a clear plan of action from DOE and specific cleanup deadlines.

Governor Jay Inslee is expected to respond Friday to a new proposal by the DOE including changes to cleanup deadlines.
