Local Teenager Regains True Sense of Smell and Taste

Posted: Updated:

Dara Crouse underwent a surgery today.

First and foremost, the surgery happened to allow Dara Crouse to breathe.  That's according to her mother, Jana Crouse.

She realized her daughter had a problem when Dara would only breathe through her mouth. Dara would also always have extreme pressure in her sinuses.

After going to Dr. Sean Demars, St. Vincent Healthcare's Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist, Dara's mother realized something: her daughter's sense of taste and smell were both muted.

Dr. Demars says this surgery is ideal for Dara because she's active in sports and school. The recovery time is minimal and it isn't an invasive procedure.

Dara says the first thing she wants to smell after she's recovered are flowers because they look pretty, so they must smell good.

A seminar will be held at the Mansfield Health Education Center on the St. Vincent Healthcare campus, May 1st at 6 p.m.

Dr. Demars will be discussing sinusitis along with a variety of treatment options.
