Griego Trial: Bank Video Shows Woman With Bloodied Face in Car

BILLINGS -

The prosecution called several witnesses to the stand in the trial of accused serial rapist Toby Griego on Wednesday morning.

Detective Blake Richardson of the Billings Police started off the morning testifying about the crime scene and collection of evidence for one of the alleged attacks. The detective says if the assailant wore a jacket, gloves and hat, it is likely that would prevent DNA transfer. The prosecutor showed a photo allegedly taken from Griego's phone at the time wearing a jacket, stocking cap and gloves. During cross-examination, the defense attorney established there were no fingerprints or DNA evidence of Toby Griego found at that crime scene.

Next up was a forensic science supervisor from the Montana Crime Lab who testified about impressions taken at the crime scene and comparing them to the footwear of the defendant.

The next witness called was a man who worked for a pest control company. He was questioned in relation to one of the alleged rapes. The prosecutor established that the man was out of town in Omaha, Nebraska with his family at the time of the rape.

The most moving testimony of the day was by a woman who works with security at Western Security Bank. She obtained the video recording for the police. She says on the video, it shows the attacker drove up to the bank, and that at one point, she could clearly see a woman in the back of the car with blood on her face.

She was followed by a manager from Mattress Land USA, the company Toby Griego worked. He says Griego likely did deliver a mattress to the apartment of one of the victims. Griego was working that day. During cross-examination, the manager also said he never got any complaints about Griego and Griego was employee of the month at one time.

Anna Ammona, a nurse with Billings Clinic who examined one of the victims, was next on the stand.   She performed the exam on the fourth alleged victim. Ammons has SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) training. She says the victim was cooperative, but got tearful, upset and anxious during the exam. Ammons says the victim told her she had showered because the suspect told her to do so. The victim had abrasions and bruising consistent with being tied up. Ammons says the victim described being whipped and trying to fight back.
