Long Empty Jail May Soon House Inmates

BILLINGS -

The $27 million detention facility in Hardin that's been vacant for nearly seven years may soon have inmates. Bob Pease, with Emerald Company, an agreement is in place with Two Rivers Authority to operate the empty jail for TRA.

One goal is to have staff trained and ready to open the jail May 15th. Pease says despite the facility sitting empty for seven years there are only minor fixes that need to be made.

Pease says the Bureau of Indian Affairs and surrounding counties will be contacted to house medium-level security inmates. There is also a need to house treatment programs within the facility.
