New VA Clinic Stresses Importance of PTSD Treatment

MONTANA -

The topic of post-traumatic stress disorder is coming to the forefront after the latest shooting at Fort Hood.

The veteran population in Montana is the second highest per capita in the U.S. The new VA clinic will provide outpatient services for about 11,000 veterans in eastern Montana.

Medical professionals stress the importance of helping out veterans and dealing with PTSD.

"Treatment for PTSD is critical. I think what is often forgot is that PTSD is an absolutely normal response to extreme stress. PTSD can be an extremely isolating disorder, so getting help, getting connected to services and establishing or re-establishing a support network can be critical to recovery," said Jeri Anderson, a licensed clinical social worker.

An official dedication of the new VA clinic is expected later this month.
