Shocked and teary eyed, that was Ms. Denise Kaupish's response Thursday morning when KULR-8 surprised her with the Gold Star Award.
Ms. Kaupish is a kindergarten teacher at South Elementary in Laurel. She's been teaching kindergarten for over a decade and has wanted to be a teacher ever since she was in second grade.. She loves to boost kid's confidence and let them know it's okay to ask questions. Her favorite part of the day is teaching her class to read.
"I think when you pick a professional you hope you're going to make a difference. And when you get recognized, I think it kind of puts the exclamation point... Like, I did make a difference in someone's life or many lives," says Kaupish.
This year, her class theme is dinosaurs. Ms. Kaupish plans to use the award money for science experiments and would like to incorporate dinosaurs into the experiment.
