Local Families Give a Hoot

BILLINGS -

Sunday local families had the opportunity to learn about Montana's owls as part of the weekend wonders program at the Audubon Center.

Families learned interesting tidbits, such as how owls stay quiet during flight and how the birds see and hear. They even dissected an owl pellet to see what owls eat.

Center naturalist Sarah Chatwood says these programs are a great way for families to learn what's in their own back yards.

"Anytime I bring out anything that the kids can touch and that an animal or something that's from nature that they can connect to, they're just amazed. And it's a connection that they don't get in any other situation. We get a little bit dirty and we get a little bit of cringes from our parents, but at the same time, they're right in there too. It's just a great way for everybody to enjoy nature and to connect with one another and to learn about things in a hands on manner," said Chatwood.

According to Chatwood, the next weekend wonders program is set for May 18.
