Ice Jam Threatens 2 Wyoming Towns

Posted: Updated:
GREYBULL, WYOMING -

The Wyoming National Guard wants to protect two towns from flooding along the Bighorn River.

A massive ice jam has backed up the river and is threatening the towns of Manderson and Greybull.

The Department of Homeland Security put up a drone and flew it over the Bighorn River.

Guard members piled sand bags in those towns.

A spokesperson for the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security says seven homes were damaged in Greybull, but the extent of that damage isn't clear yet.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for central Bighorn County through Monday.

The Red Cross opened a second shelter in Basin to help anyone who needs a place to go.
