I-90 Closed After Avalanches Near Montana/Idaho Border
The westbound lanes on I-90 from St. Regis to Lookout Pass are closed after 6 small avalanches covered lanes of the highway.
The Montana Department of Transportation says there were no injuries, but there is a risk of further avalanches, so they have closed the westbound lanes and are waiting for an avalanche expert to assess the situation.
The eastbound lanes will remain open. It is unclear when the westbound lanes will reopen, so traffic is being detoured towards Sandpoint.
Idaho State Police say they aren't sure when the highway will reopen, but said it could be a up to a day or more. Travelers needing to go to Montana are being asked to use US Highway 95 to SH 200 or Highway 2 as an alternate route.
