Mayor Rides Along with Snow Crews

BILLINGS -

Five weeks and counting as city crews work around the clock to plow, sand, and remove snow on Billings streets.

Sunday, Mayor Tom Hanel rode along with Billings work crews, as they shift gears from plowing to sanding and snow removal. He said his experience riding along with the crews makes him appreciate the hard work it takes to keep the city's streets safe.

"It takes a great deal of experience, expertise to operate this equipment. It's a very dangerous occupation, working around normal traffic flow and the citizens. I'd ask the citizens to please be aware of that. These gentlemen are not only trained to drive the truck, but they operate the truck and sander, and as you can see they get out of the truck and jump on the loader, so they're able to operate the loader, and I'm very proud of what they're doing," said Hanel.

"We're out here. Fleet services is out here as well as the police and fire. They're all working through this weather, and we're all waiting for spring," said Bill Kemp, the street division manager of public works.

They're not the only ones waiting for spring.
