BILLINGS -

Approval was granted Thursday for a permission so the Energy Corporation of America can drill in the Beartooth mountain range.

The Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation approved the permit, after a public hearing Thursday morning. Ten people from Carbon County were at the meeting to voice their concerns about the well near Belfry. Deb Muth with the Carbon Resource Council says the agency will be keeping track of the drilling process. She says, "They are following their permit application to a T. So we're going not going away and we're going to be protecting our rights, our property, our livelihoods."

Derrick Pottmeyer with Energy Corporation says the well being drilled in Belfry will use horizontal drilling procedures, which are much different than the common fracking techniques
