St. V's New Year's Baby Finally Going Home

Posted: Updated:

The first baby born in 2014 at St. Vincent Healthcare is finally home. The staff at St. V's gave the Cantrell family a fond farewell Thursday.

Bear was born 10 weeks premature but staff say he's now living up to his name. Bear's family says they are ready to get him home and get the family, which includes two other children, settled down. The Clinical Supervisor for the NICU at St. V's says, "I've gotten to watch him grow and love on his family and love on bear and see him get big he is a bear."

Bear's parents say they are looking forward to being home. Matt Cantrell says, "It'll be nice to cook our own food and sleep in our own bed and to just relax for a little while." Mari Cantrell adds, "We haven't been, all of us together, in our house since new year's eve." The cantrells are no strangers to raising children born prematurely. The staff at St. V's says both of their other children were born early.
