Bleeding Hearts Luncheon

Posted: Updated:

Billings Clinic and United Blood Services host the very first Bleeding Hearts Luncheon.

Monday's event was an opportunity for blood donors to meet a special little girl named Bria Koch. When Bria was just seven weeks old, she was diagnosed with an extremely rare blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia, which requires her to receive a blood transfusion every three to four weeks.

Bria's father, Brad Koch, says this luncheon gave his family an opportunity to say thank you to all of the generous donors.

"It's easy to go out and say, donate blood, donate blood, donate blood, but when you have a message and you have a compelling story, it makes that message that much more stronger," said Koch.

"The discomfort is nothing compared to the pleasure that you know that your blood is going to help a person live on," said Ted Freestone, a blood donor.

Bria just finished her 100th transfusion, earlier this month.

Her family remains hopeful someday there will be a better alternative to the blood transfusions, but in the meantime, she will continue living a fun and normal childhood, thanks to the generosity of donors like Ted Freestone.

Susanne Rodell faced a difficult situation. Hail storm damage to her roof led to an insurance claim being filed. Rodell picked a local contractor to fix her roof, but mother nature did not cooperate. While the roofing company was in the middle of fixing her roof, a weekend of rain caused water damage to dry wall and ceilings within the house.
