Investigation into the Murder of Columbus Man Continues

Officials in Costa Rica are ruling out drugs as a motive in the murder of a man from Columbus.

Robbery has already been ruled out.

64-year old Kurt Heigis was killed by unknown assailants around 7:30 PM on Sunday, on a gravel road.

Inside Costa Rica, a news outlet in Costa Rica, has been following the story since they first heard about it on Monday.

The news outlet's editor, Tim Williams, says it's unusual to have a U.S. citizen murdered in the country. He says it can be difficult for the family to get answers and know what to do next.

"We've been doing our best to stay in contact with his family, and kind of be a liaison to let them know what is happening, as far as the local authorities go, with the investigation," said Williams.

The family of Kurt Heigis says he was a simple farmer, who wanted to retire in Costa Rica. They say he was very well-liked and had no enemies.
