Montana Murray Predicts an Early Spring

Posted: Updated:
ROUNDUP -

According to our local groundhog, Montana Murray, spring is coming early this year.

On Sunday, Montana Murray did not see his shadow in Roundup. According to legend, that means spring will come early this year rather than six more weeks of winter.

Roundup community members say this is the 4th year the furry forecaster has made the same prediction, and so far, he's 3 for 3.

With that said, Murray is no meteorologist - like our own Kyle Pickens - but event organizer Cory Freeman has faith Murray's prediction will not disappoint.

"On most years Murray has still been in torpor on this day, which is like a semi-hibernation. But Murray's actually been wide-awake now for about two or three weeks, which tells me that things are shifting. I think he already knows," organizer Cory Freeman said.

Murray's famous relative Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow in Pennsylvania. Officials say Phil saw his shadow and is predicting six more weeks of winter.
