Retirement Community Celebrates Chinese New Year

BILLINGS -

Residents at Sweetwater Retirement Community celebrate the Chinese New Year in style this year.

In honor of the Chinese holiday, Life Enrichment Coordinator, Betty Jean Long, constructed a Chinese dragon out of paper and various fabrics.

Long and other Sweetwater staff members paraded around the community dining room while residents dined on their traditional Chinese New Year dinner.

Long says the staff thoroughly enjoys hosting events for their residents.

"The residents are just, they love to have a good function where they can actually get together, celebrate something, have a good time with each other, and interact with the staff as well. Yeah, it's very important," said Long.

The traditional Chinese meal was prepared by Sweetwater kitchen assistant, Ying Julian. Ying is originally from China, and her co-Sweetwater staff members love having her around.

Firefighters are wrapping up their work on a blaze northwest of Cody. The Dillworth Fire, which was visible from the Chief Joseph Highway, grew to only six acres. It’s indicative of the mild fire season in the Shoshone National Forest and Yellowstone so far this summer.
