Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Starts

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

The Billings Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, or VITA, is now offering free income tax preparation help.

The program is designed for those who made $52,000 or less in 2013. VITA's services are available now through April 12th at HRDC on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m. They will also be available at the Billings Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

"Even the simplest return can be complicated, and a lot of the time the IRS will ask simple questions, but they have complicated answers. We're able to walk them through that process to get them the best return possible," said Tamara Butler, the assistant program manager for VITA.

Streets that run for several blocks, without a single street light. It is a dark reality many residents throughout the Magic City face when the sun goes down. Leo Robinson lives on Monad Rd., east of 24th Street. He said if street lights were placed on Monad, safety for everyone would improve. Terry Smith, City Traffic Engineer, said the city is more than willing to work with anyone, on any street, which lacks street lights.

Hundreds of Hells Angels are coming to Cody for a national meeting this week. The motorcycle club apparently likes the northwest Wyoming town. They held their world run there in 2006. Police presence is heavy in Cody now.
