Meeting on Food Rules

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

The many rules of local food production and distribution can become very confusing.

The Montana Departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, and Livestock held a public meeting on Tuesday, encouraging people to share their questions and ideas,

When it comes to Montana's state food laws.Cort Jensen hosted the discussions and says it's critical for everyone, from producers to distributors and even consumers, to stay educated on our state food laws and licenses.

"So, what we're doing is a series of three meetings. This was the last one, here in Billings. For the members of the public to comment and tell us what's working and what's not working on everything from the food modernization act to the way farmer's markets work, to whether or not we should have a cottage food law in Montana," says Cort Jenson, Montana Department of Agriculture.

Jensen says if you missed the meeting on Tuesday and have more questions about our food laws, you can always talk to your local county experts.
