More than 100 people showed up at the Mansfield Health Education Center on Wednesday night for Saint Vincent Healthcare's Weight Management Seminar.

The session provided attendees with information on how to lose those pesky, unwanted pounds, and keep them off. One of the effective ways to lose weight is to exercise, but if exercise just doesn't seem to be working, there are alternative ways to losing weight, including different forms of bariatric surgery.

Surgical patient, Cheryl Miller, says some people need to hit rock bottom before they make the decision to lead healthier lives. In her case, she says the decision to undergo surgery has transformed her life.

"Until it's your decision and you've hit rock bottom, don't do it for your doctor, don't do it because somebody else says. If you don't do it for you and have personal reasons, it probably won't work. You have to be committed to it. It is a transformation of your mind and your whole lifestyle. I had never ran in my life. When I had in high school, I had asthma and I would die of an asthma attack after running. After the surgery, after losing 100 pounds with the lap band and currently 50 pounds with the sleeve, I can run. I run 5K's, 10K's, half marathons. I've run one marathon," said Miller.

Miller also encourages people to make sure they are doing something they truly enjoy while trying to lose weight.
