BILLINGS -

The five people arrested by Billings Police, in what they call an illegal check-cashing ring, make a court appearance Thursday. 33-year old Elijah Bearing, 27-year old Chaney Sibley, 20 –year old Fernando Allison, Jr, 23-year old Justin Philips and 20-year old Demario Brooks were all charged with five counts of forgery. Brooks also faces charges of assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Police say the suspects bought transients food and clothing, and then had them cash checks. They were caught after a local bank was suspicious about a check Wednesday and called police. Court documents state the group cashed more than $24,000 worth of checks.
