Illegal Check Cashing Arrests

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Billings police say five people are in custody for what investigators call an illegal check cashing ring in the city.

Police say the suspects were going to several banks in Billings to cash forged checks, and they would get transients to try to cash checks illegally. A local bank called police Wednesday morning, officers responded and caught Elijah Bearing, 33, a man from Lame Deer. The other four suspects fled, but all eventually were caught. They are Chaney Sibley, Fernando Allison, Jr., Justin Phillips, and Demario Brooks.

They're all facing felony forgery charges. One is facing a charge of assault on a peace officer after a skirmish with officers.
